Daydreams and Butterflies

Oneida Lake

It's been too long since I've written on here. Over 5 months? So here I am!

It's nice to be up in New York again, but I can definitely say that it's a bit tiring being with the family for such long periods at a time. I love them, but that camp is, admittedly, quite small. Anyone could go a little nuts!

I'm especially glad that the Original 5 is still friends. Who would've thought back in kindergarten and 1st grade that we would be friends after graduating high school? On a regular basis they are my saving grace, there no matter what, always willing to laugh or cry together.

Strange feeling, though, graduating. I'm excited, but I'm scared. I'm ready, but I don't want to leave. My whole mind is completely conflicted at the moment. Classes start at UGA in a little over a month though! I suppose I have to be ready no matter what. For now I'll just imagine what might happen now that my life is going to start over again...

A Month, A Melody, A Moment

Hugh Hodgson Concert Hall, University of Georgia, Athens
January 20, 2007
Well, we were worn out!
After spending the entire weekend at UGA for Janfest (January Music Festival), I am more than happy to finally be home. It was quite the experience though.
Thursday: Driving and an audition to be placed in one of the 6 bands.
Friday: Crack of dawn Master Class (i.e. in my case, all of the French horns in one room learning how to play more effectively), chaos of finding out band and chair placement (second chair in Dr. Wayne Dorothy's band), rehearsal, concert, rehearsal...and somewhere in between eating.
Saturday: 3 1/2 hour rehearsal (kill me, please) and more of the same as Friday including an extremely entertaining Steel Drum Band concert and Percussion Ensemble.
Today: Rehearsal yet again, and then I was surprised to see Dad at the hotel after Mom had told me he was way too tired to make the trip, ate lunch at Applebee's, and finally played our concert at 1:00 in the concert hall. We're ordering a CD, so if anyone wants a copy, let me know. :)

I should probably explain the picture. From top to bottom is me, Doug, Jacob, and Chris. By Friday, we were exhausted, so we decided to take a brief nap on the far side of the lobby in the concert hall. Yes, lots of people looked at us. No, we didn't care. And no, we really didn't get very much nap time.
All in all, the weekend was...well, interesting. A few of the people in my band were nice to be around, but unfortunately I was in a completely different building than the other guys from Etowah (only the seniors got to go on the trip, and I was the only girl out of the 5 of us). Our music was well-chosen and well-played, and our director was definitely unique.

While I didn't learn much about music and how to express it, I enjoyed the trip for the most part.

I only wish the temperature would drop just a bit more, so the rain could freeze and school would be cancelled. :)

Winter?

Inside of my poor empty glove.

Why is my hand not inside my glove? For one, it's 66 degrees outside right now. And I thought it was winter, ha. It actually is frustrating.

I do love warm weather, but this is a bit out of hand. Meteorologists are saying that the warm weather is due to El Niño, but haven't we been dealing with the weather phenomenon for years now? In my opinion, I don't think anything that translates to mean "The Boy" should cause so much weather confusion!

It's pretty humorous, though, because I remember in October or November a conversation I had with my sister Erin about how frigidly cold we expected the winter to be. She said that animals looked more heavy than they normally do. I said it was already cold enough to feel like winter. And now that winter is officially the season, it feels like spring!

Will someone tell me where Winter has decided to go on vacation? I miss it.
Y El Niño necesito traer el invierno atrás.

Vanity

I have decided I am sick of Xanga. It's kind of a waste of my time. And so, following in Mary's (my aunt) footsteps, I've decided to start one of these blogs. Mary, I hope you don't mind, I love the way you set up your posts, so I kind of used the same idea. :)

Today at the mall I recognized the absolute hilarity of human vanity. Kristen and I were trying desperately (yes) to buy shirts from Delia's, and the girl ringing us up at the counter dove into this story about how the district manager was there and no one was supposed to have piercings and she had one right above her lip ("obviously" was the word she used) and blah blah blah. Simple solution: Take the piercing out while you're working!!! Difficult solution she decided to complain to us about: Put a band-aid on it.

Now honestly, who cares? It was...silly.

And now I am going to continue to watch Syracuse beat (hopefully I'm not jinxing them) #10 Pittsburgh in the first Big East game of the season. Basketball is wonderful.
